How should chief executives—and their board members—prepare for a productive annual review meeting?
This fictitious case, based on real-world business practices, describes the top-line activities of a mid-sized biotech pharmaceutical company and the goals of its recently appointed CEO as she prepares for her annual review with board members. This case asks students to consider how a CEO should communicate goals, accomplishments, and challenges to the board. The case is accompanied by a role play exercise where students are tasked to enact an actual CEO review meeting (with roles for the CEO and five members of the board evaluation and review committee) as a means to explore best practices in providing and receiving feedback.
