The latest results for Modell's Sporting Goods looked promising: average sales numbers were up, conversion had improved, and despite a tough stretch, the Philadelphia stores showed steady growth. But the fledgling Washington D.C. division was underperforming, and the recently acquired Herman's stores suffered from nagging problems.
