In 2019, BBVA, one of the world’s largest international banks, adopted sustainability as a strategic priority. Javier Rodríguez Soler, Global Head of Sustainability and Global Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, was responsible for growing the banking business and for decarbonizing it. BBVA believed a bank that finances a client’s transition to net zero, is not sacrificing shareholder value but is betting on which companies will still be competitive in a decarbonizing economy.
